MOGADISHU (SD)-High-ranking officials from the Federal Government of Somalia and the UN, including ministers, United Nations representatives in Somalia, and diplomats in Mogadishu, today attended the official opening ceremony of the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).
The ceremony marked the transition from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to UNTMIS. This change symbolizes the progress Somalia has made towards self-reliance and its role on the international stage.
The event was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Information, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Senior Advisor Yusuf Garaad, other officials, and ambassadors from various countries. They participated in the announcement of the transformation of the United Nations office in Somalia to UNTMIS.
