Bossaso January 17, 2023 (SD) -The Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) has announced that a very small number of people have registered in the regions of Bari, Karkar, and Gardafuu, despite the registration lasting more than two weeks and only 100,000 (one hundred thousand) people registering.

Opposition politicians and various sectors of society in these regions have expressed strong concern about the preliminary results of the registration, stating that it paints a negative picture of these regions, which are believed to be home to more than one million people, although an official count is not available.

There are four reasons believed to be causing the lack of registration among the public in these regions, such as the registration being disputed, some people have already registered, the TPEC not carrying out the registration as intended, and the government’s term ending soon.

Despite the registration problems, the TPEC has announced that registration in these regions will be extended in the coming days.
