Somalia voices support for Jordan after alleged coup attempt

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali government voiced its support for all decisions and measures taken by Jordan’s King Abdullah.

In a statement, the Somali foreign ministry said the horn of Africa nation backs Jordan’s King Abdullah to preserve the security and stability of the Kingdom.

Former Crown Prince Hamzah bin Al-Hussein was involved in “attempts to destabilize the country’s security” with foreign entities.

“Jordan succeeded in taking all necessary measures to foil the malicious plot and the security bodies intervened at the last minute and foiled these attempts seeking to harm Jordan’s stability and security,” Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

Jordanian government arrested dozens of people last night in Amman. Among arrested are former Jordanian head of royal court Bassem Awadallah and Prince Hamza bin Al Hussain.

Al Hussain denied conspiracy but accused Jordan’s leaders of corruption and incompetence.

Regional bodies and several countries have voiced solidarity with Jordan and the measures taken by the Jordanian authorities.
