SNA kills two militants in southern Somalia

BAIDOA (SD) – Somali security forces have today killed two al-Shabaab operatives following security operation against the terror group in Bay region.

The operation comes barely two days after fierce fighting between Somali military and al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle region claimed lives of over 100 people including government soldiers.

Qansah-dhere assistant district commissioner, Mukhtar Abdi told the local media that the forces acting on intelligence report foiled IED attack and killed the two who were suspected to have been planting IED on a roadside.

“Our security forces conducted an operation which led to the death of the two militants following a tip off from the public. They were planning to harm the public,” Abdi said.

Last Saturday, heavily armed al-shabaab militants carried out twin attack attacks on two Somali military bases in Lower Shabelle region. The fighting between Somali military and the militants at Barire and Awdhegle military bases took hours before al-Shabaab fighters were defeated

Somali Military Chief, General Odowaa Yussuf Rage said over 80 militants were killed while his side suffered 14 fatalities.

The militant group claimed that its fighters killed 47 government soldiers and made away with huge cache of weapons and military vehicles.
