Kenyan Al-Shabaab member kills his parents in a suicide bombing

Kisumu – (SD) – According to Kenya’s The Star newspaper, Kenyan police confirmed a suspected al-Shabaab member killed his parents and himself in a suicide attack.

The attack took place in Katito area of Kisumu identifying the suicide bomber as Joseph Odhiambo Ondiek aka Pope.

The suspect reportedly went to his house then detonated an explosive-laden jacket, killing him and his 55-year-old parents.

Police sources told The Star that the suicide bomber had recently returned home after joining Al-Shabaab, used an improvised explosive device (IED) to kill his parents.

On December 17, 2020, Pope tried to kill his 16-year-old girlfriend in a rented house in Katito on charges of infidelity.

According to police at the time, Pope made the explosives and left them at home. He then fled the area, and police were on the lookout for him.

The attacker, a fifth-grader, reportedly left his home more than five years ago, went to Mombasa where he joined Al Shabaab.

Police did not say why the man targeted and killed his parents, while injuring his sister in the attack.
