Mogadishu December 27, 2022 (SD) – The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, held a well-attended reception ceremony last night in Mogadishu for Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar.

Prime Minister Hamse said that Ilhan Omar showed talent, knowledge, and energy, which he said was the reason for her political success in the U.S.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar who spoke at the event said she was happy with the warm welcome, and praised the Somali government for its quick successes in eradicating Al-Shabaab.

Ilhan Omar, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, noted that the United States African Command AFRICOM is working effectively with the Somali National Army [SNA] in restoring peace and stability in the war-torn country.

This is Ilhan Omar’s first visit to Somalia since her election to Congress in 2018.
