UN, IGAD, EU & Puntland President discuss elections

Garowe (SD) – Representatives from the United Nations, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the European Union met with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni to discuss Somalia’s elections.

Representatives said that the government needs to complete the members of the State Electoral Commissions, and corporation with partners to expedite the process, with a focus on holding elections on time.

During the meeting, Puntland suggested that the concerns be addressed and that it was important for all parties to implement the agreements reached, But the international envoys have reportedly made it clear that Somalis need to discuss and reach consensus.

Puntland President Said Deni has not yet named the members of the State Electoral Commission, amid reports in the last few hours that he is expected to look at concerns raised by presidential candidates.
