Mogadishu (SD) – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, said it is important to implement the agreement reached last year between the leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia and the regional administrations regarding the 2020/2021 elections.
Speaking to Al Jazeera TV, he said the country’s elections should be held on time and the authorities to abide by the agreement reached, so as not to jeopardize the election and the timetable issued.
Ambassador James Swan also noted the importance of working together to ensure security in Somalia as the country prepares for elections, and called for the implementation of the agreement once again.
James Swan, meanwhile, defended the work of the United Nations Office in Somalia, at a time there is various allegations against the UN, and stressed that for the past 30 years they had been working for the development of Somalia.
The statement of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General comes at a time of heated debate over Somalia’s presidential election and members of both houses of parliament.
