Afgoye (SD) – A suicide car bomb has exploded today near the Afgoye district of lower Shabelle region in the southern of Somalia.
The explosion was caused by a vehicle driven by a suicide bomber, targeted a vehicle carrying Turkish workers and their police escort.
“We condemn the terrorist attack targeting innocent civilians that injured 11 civilians and four Turkish citizens,” said Turkish Minister of defense Hulusi Akar said.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, which was said to have been a suicide, targeting a Turkish staff facility
Al-Shabaab confirmed that six Turkish people were present and four of them injured in the blast.
A month ago, al-Shabaab launched a massive explosion at Ex Control Station on the Turkish side of the Afgoye corridor, killing at least 100 civilians and two Turkish engineers.
