Amnesty International welcomes the arrest of Abdirashid Janan

Mogadishu(SD)-Amnesty International welcomes the arrest of Jubbaland Minister of Internal Security, Abdirashid Hassan Abddinur Janan.

Seif Magango, Amnesty International Deputy Director General for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes, described the arrest of Abdirashid Janan as a step forward in the account of major crimes committed.

Amnesty International recommended That Abdirashid Janan be urgently brought to civilian prosecution for his crimes.

A report by the former Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group (SEMG) in 2016 and 2017 accuses Abdirashid Hassan Abdurur of committing acts of violence between 2014 and 2017.

Somali police have announced that Abdirashid Janan was detained at Mogadishu airport on 31st August 2019, and the Deputy Police Commissioner Zakia Hussein said Abdirashid Janan is facing multiple charges and will be investigated.
