Borama (SD) – Various media outlets operating in the capital of Awdal region, Borama, today, called on the President of Somaliland to pardon journalist Abdimalik Muse Coldon.
Journalist Coldon is currently detained by the government of Muse Bihi, after a Hargeisa court sentenced him to three years and several months.
The media in Awdal region has asked President Bihi to extend amnesty to the journalist, who also run a charity that is helping the needy.
The announcement, made today by the media outlets in Awdal region, is one of many calls for the Bihi government to release Coldon, even though the government appears to be reluctant to accept the demands.
Coldon has been indicted and was convicted for allegedly insulting Somaliland’s highest official, Muse Bihi and a school called Abarso, on the outskirts of Hargeisa, run by US citizens.
The journalist has been detained several times before by the Somaliland government, though this arrest will be the longest under the leadership of Muse Bihi.
The Bihi government did not respond to the repeated appeals from the public regarding the release of the journalist.
