Mogadishu (SD) – Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has casted a doubt over the possible election in Somalia, warning against an unprecedented baseless extensions.
He said that mandate extensions for the government institutions are in conflict with the country’s constitution, adding that he was unaware of any reasons for delays as elections were held in the country amid ongoing fighting.
Hassan Sheikh added that while the Somali parliament is debating the electoral law, there are political experts saying the elections will not be timely.
The former president called on the current leaders and members of the federal parliament must honor the oath they have made to the Somali people and to safeguard the democratic culture of our country.
The Somali Opposition, including several former Presidents are in a political raw with the current government over several issues including election.
