Update: Al-shabaab confirms missile attacks on its radio station

MOGADISHU (SD) – Suspected US airstrikes have destroyed Pro-Al-Shabaab radio station, Al-Furqaan in Southern Somalia, al-Shabaab confirm and other sources confirmed.

Multiple sources including an al-shabaab affiliate media confirmed the attack which happened on Friday night in Kunya-Barow town of Lower Shabelle region.

According reports, several missiles have hit the area and completely destroyed the station.

On its side, al-Shabaab confirmed the attack but claimed the missiles hit a civilian residence.

Somali government and AFRICOM have not commented on the attack.

Al-Shabaab militant group owns and operatives number of local radio station in south and central Somalia.

The group looted several private radio stations in Mogadishu including Horn-Afrik before their fighters were drove out of the capital by Somali military backed by AMISOM.

The radio stations broadcast daily news about the attacks carried out by the rebels against government sites.

The attack comes amid US finalises withdrawal of its troops from Somalia before this month ends.
