Opposition parties in Somaliland Accuses President of election Delays

Hargeisa (SD) – Both Wadani and UCID have said they have cut ties with the president until he ends the election dispute and holds the local council and parliamentary elections.

UCID party leader Faisal Ali Warabe, speaking for the opposition, said President Bihi is hypocritical in his language and actions, and accused him of not allowing elections be held in this country.

Faisal Ali Warabe said the president has decide by himself to extend the mandate of councils as well as parliamentary elections, wanting his tenure be extended too.

“Without the election of the local councils and parliament, he does not continue to be president,” Faisal said.

The statement came after the president said he would meet with opposition party chairmen in an effort to end the election dispute.

“It is crucial that we hold elections, and the election will be delayed because of political parties’ differences. I call on the two opposition party leaders to convene in an emergency meeting.” Said president Bihi today.
