Garowe (SD) – The Puntland consultative meeting opened in the regional state’s capital Garowe this morning.
The conference was announced by the Puntland state President following a prolonged political dispute with the Federal Government of Somalia.
Puntland’s most prominent politicians and traditional leaders with all kinds of political stripes will attend the consultative conference.
Ministers from the Federal Government who hail form Puntland state are also participating in the consultative meetings, raising questions of their allegiance.
Puntland state since its inception, struggled to establish a relationship with the federal government, due to the local state not fully accepting the federal government’s role.
Puntland, which was founded in 1998, has succeeded in establishing a system of government, security and presidential elections, though it has not yet achieved one-person one vote.
