Puntland Orders Closure of Office of the Somali Electoral Commission

Garowe (SD) – The Puntland Government has ordered the closure of the Somalia’s National Electoral Commission office in Garowe, the capital of Puntland.

A letter from the Puntland Ministry of Interior has instructed the governor of Nugal region to insure the closer of the Election Commission office as of today.

In addition, the governors of the regions and districts of Puntland were notified that the Somali Electoral Commission should not work in Puntland.

The reason behind the closure of the Electoral Commission office has not been explained.

The decision by Puntland government comes after the National Election Commission had set up a one-man and one-vote polling stations planned by the Somalia government.
