NY(SD)-The United Nations Security Council has voted not in favor of resolution 1267 to include al-Shabaab in Somalia on the international terror list.
Federal Government of Somalia’s UN Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, praised the UN Security Council for rejecting Resolution 1267.
“Al-Shabaab is a terrorist organization that is not in dispute, and there have been some resolutions issued by the UN Security Council such as 751 to undermine al-Shabaab’s ability and the resources to make charcoal. Now, if this is done, it will be enough to eradicate al-Shabaab and Al-Shabaab. ” said Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed, Director of the Presidency of Somalia, addressing the Security Council’s decision.
The reason the Somali government is opposed to the Resolution is, if al-Shabaab is included in the International Terrorism List, the humanitarian crisis that would result from the shelling of the international alliance, At the same time, humanitarian aid cannot be deployed, which is the Somali government’s concern, according to Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman.
