Mogadishu (SD) – The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has started distribution of medical equipment to regional states and Somaliland for the preparation and prevention of Corona (COVID-19).
The equipment has been delivered today to Puntland and Somaliland, and there are plans to be delivered to South West, Jubaland, Galmudug and Hirshabelle regions.
In a joint statement yesterday, the federal health ministry and member states said they need about $ 60 million to treat Covid-19.
The Medical supplies comes from Alibaba Foundation, owned by Chinese businessman Jack Ma.
It’s the first time since Somaliland’s independence that it excepted an aid distribution meant for regional Somalia’s member states.
Somaliland government has not yet addressed the Federal Government of Somalia’s aid distribution.
Somaliland had declared independence from Somalia in May of 1991 and has yet to achieve independence.
