Somali government orders Religious institutions be closed

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali Ministry of Religious Affairs has ordered the closure of religious schools and mosques, to curb the spread of the infectious Coronavirus.

The decision was reached during at a meeting between Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs and religious leaders, they advised the public to worship in their homes, in order to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus.

A statement from the ministry said “As of tomorrow, Tuesday 31/03/2020, we have officially closed Koranic schools and religious learning centers for two weeks, as children are the most vulnerable to covid19 infection.”

The Somali government has already ordered the closure of schools and universities, and the government has banned domestic and foreign flights.

The Somali government has so far confirmed three coronavirus cases in the country, the number doesn’t include possible cases in the member states and Somaliland.
