Hargeisa (SD) -Back in 1947, Somalia’s main political party, known as SYL (Somali Youth League), which is credited in leeding the independent and of Somalia’s UN trusteeship under Italian government, started the first Somali tribal conflict.

The SYL apparently wrote a letter of protest to an American oil exploration company in the Somali region of Ethiopia, after it employed staff from one of the Somali tribes in the region.

In a letter signed by the former Deputy president of SYL Mohamed
Hussein, to the American Company known as Sinclair asked the company
to get rid of the Isak Tribe workers.
