Somalia attends Global Communication Summit

Budapest(SD)-Minister of Telecommunications & Technology, Mr. Eng. Abdi Aziz Hassan said Somalia had achieved significant success at the World Telecommunications Summit in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

Minister and General Manager of Somalia’s Telecommunications & Technology, Mr. Abdi Sheikh met with the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Houlin Zhao and his deputy on Development, Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, discussing the results of the resolution 160 of the Somalia support adopted at the end of last year’s ITU Conference.

The Minister appreciated the ITU’s role in the preparation of National Communications & Technology Strategy, ITU’s first training in Somalia in over 30 years, and other initiatives currently in collaboration with the Ministry and ITU.

The Minister and his delegation also met with China’s Deputy Minister of Commerce and Technology, Zhaoxiong Chen, and his delegation, they discussed China’s contribution to the construction of telecommunications infrastructure and technology the country.

The two parties have agreed to collaborate on technological development, such as state-funded telecommunications infrastructure, technology knowledge transfer to youth through the National Telecommunications Institute, and on how the two telecommunications and technology companies have a working relationship.
