Mogadishu (SD) – Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, the Speaker of the Somali Parliament, has presented to the international community a written statement that the parliament is preparing a special election process for Somaliland seats.
In this letter, which was released from the speaker’s office on the 6th of this month, was sent to the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United Nations and the United States, informing them that the parliament will prepare plans for the election of Somaliland representatives for the next parliament.
The Speaker noted that Parliament will work closely with the National Electoral Commission to identify and resolve any issues that may affect the implementation of the Somaliland resolution.
At the top of the letter, the Speaker of the Assembly describes the new electoral law recently passed by parliament.
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has since established a democratic process to over see one person one vote.
