Somalia’s National party forum warns against a clause in the Election law

Mogadishu (SD) – The debate and controversy over the recent National Election law in front of the Somalia parliament is the source of huge disagreement.

The National Party Forum has warned some parts of the draft law submitted to the House of the People allows indefinite term extensions if the election is not held on time.

Article 53 states that elections can be postponed indefinitely in the event of serious crises, such as disasters, droughts, and technical issues.

The most common assumption is that there may be a one man one vote in a timely manner, and there is also a considerable doubt that there will be an extension for the Parliament and the current Government, a major concern for politicians and parties who are closely monitoring in how Parliament deals with the proposed legislation.

It is not known which way the parliamentarians will go with their decision on the election law they will be debating in the coming days.
