Hargeisa (SD) – The government of Somaliland has for the first time spoken of the visit of a delegation from the Ethiopian government led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide.
Somaliland’s Minister of Information Saleban Yusuf Ali Kore who spoke to the BBC denied that the delegation visit was related to cancelled visit of PM Abiy Ahmed and President Farmajo in Hargeisa.
Kore said Ahmed Shide’s delegation did not pressure the Somaliland government to allow Farmajo to visit Hargeisa, a move previously rejected by Somaliland.
He added that there has been no change in Somaliland’s position on the matter and is as President Bihi recently declared in parliament.
“The governments of Somaliland and Ethiopia have a very close regional and national relationship, have common interests such as trade, DP World and Berbera Corridor,” Kore said.
The Ethiopian delegation went back to Addis Ababa today. Somaliland has yet to comment on who met with the delegation and its outcome.
