Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi met with a delegation from the International Community led by EU Ambassador to Somalia Amb. Nicolas Belanga Martinez.
Somaliland issued a press release regarding the meeting of Muse Bihi and Ambassador Nicolas Belanga Martinez, and said they have discussed several issues including the holding of elections in the House of Representatives and Local Governments, resolution of the electoral commission dispute and increasing the international community’s support for the development of social issues and political issues in Somaliland.
In the press release, Muse Bihi said his government is committed to holding elections, when the parties set out the possibility of elections both technically and legally, and said request for meeting with the opposition parties still stands.
The Somaliland statement didn’t cover the International delegation’s contributions to the meetings and what they thought of the current political situation in Somaliland.
President Bihi in the released statement didn’t say or address the resolutions recently proposed by the independent mediation committees, which apparently Kulmiye accepted.
President Muse Bihi was accompanied by the Vice President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail (Saylici), the Speaker of the House of Representatives and their deputies, Suleiman Mohamud Adan and Bashe Mohamed Farah.
EU Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Nicolas Berlanga Martinez, was accompanied by Italian Ambassador Amb. Alberto Vecchi, German Ambassador Amb. Annett Guenther and officials from the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Austria, IGAD and Denmark.
The large delegation is in Somaliland to assist in finding a resolution to the electoral commission between the opposition parties and the government.
