Hargeisa(SD)-Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi is set to travel to to Djibouti, a week after Somali president Mohamed Farmajo visited that country.
Somaliland President will visit Djibouti with an official invitation from Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh.
Insiders are speculating that this visit has to do with easing tensions between Somalia and Somaliland.
It’s reported earlier that the international community suggested that President Guelleh should assist in helping to restart the stalled Somalia and Somaliland talks.
This comes after Somaliland rejected a Somalia commission appointed by President Farmajo recently.
Furthermore, Somaliland rejected an EU funding project for Berbera road project through Somalia government.
Sources say the Somaliland government is feeling increased political pressure from Somalia in the diplomatic circles.
The president’s trip to Djibouti is an opportunity to put forward and advance Somaliland’s diplomatic agenda.
Somaliland needs to move from going to invited presidential trips and move to diplomatically motivated and agenda driven trips.
It’s worth mentioning the trip comes amid rumors that the Somaliland foreign Minister Yasin Faraton is slayed to resign from his position soon.
But it is not yet know how this will play out, since Somaliland government has not motioned it’s agenda for the trip.
