HARGEISA (SD) – A military court in Somaliland has sentenced a police officer for killing a student early last month at Amoud University in Borama town of Awdal region.

Omar Diriye Burale, who was attached to Amoud University had killed Abdishakur Ibrahim on July 5 this year after heated dispute between the two.

According to a statement, military court sitting in Borama, Awdal region found Burale guilty of ‘carelessly’ using his weapon ‘against a civilian’ which resulted in the death.

Following hearing that had been running for the last one week, the court today the officer to death.

It was alleged that the officer barred the student from entering the university leading to a heated argument at the gate.
