Mogadishu (SD) – The chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission spoke about the disagreement between the members of the commission, based on the release of the Somali Parliament’s election procedure announced yesterday.
Chairman Cirro said the rift among committee members is based on interference from some administrations, forcing them to oppose the agreed upon parliamentary election process.
“There is pressure from the regional administrations on their appointed commissions, this is a violation of the independence of the commission and the transparency of the election,” said Chairman Cirro.
The Chairman also stressed that the members selected by the regional administrations are now part of the Commission, this is a violation of the independence of the commission and the transparency of the election.
“They have only been nominated by the regional administrations, but now it is an independent commission. It is important that consensus is reached.” said Chairman Cirro.
Credible sources say some administration leaders wanted to have more influence on the election process and opposed yesterday’s proposed process
