Speaker of the Puntland Parliament contests removal

Garowe(SD)-The Speaker of the Puntland State of Somalia, Abdihakim Mohamed Ahmed Dhobo, has rejected the resigning from the Puntland House of Representatives today.

Speaking to the Somali media, he said no legal proceedings were made to remove him as he expressed on the decision today from parliamentarians’ confidence vote to remove him.

The deputy of Puntland Parliament Abdulaziz, announced the results dismissing the parliament speaker as the ousted speaker did not attend the session.

The motion to dismiss the speaker was submitted by 44 lawmakers, according to the Deputy Speaker of the Puntland Parliament.

The allegations in the motion included the speaker saying that “Puntland was formed and captured by three tribes, which they said was in violation of Puntland law”.

The lawmakers who filed the motion also argued that the speaker has “deployed  armed militias” to Parliament.

“It is up to constitution; whether it is right or illegal, it is written in the constitution and the rules of procedure, and how I can lose my job,” the told the media.

He alleges that lawmakers have been “pressured, and given money”, although this cannot be independently verified.

At least three people were killed and five others were wounded in a gun battle between Puntland security forces and Puntland security forces.
