The Somaliland government threatens Somaliland media owners.

Hargeisa(SD)-Somaliland Minister of Information and Culture Mohamed Muse Diriye said at a ceremony in Hargeisa that the owners of media houses would be accountable to the country’s media law but would not arrest the journalists working in those organizations.

The minister says that the owner set up shop and are accountable to no one, they broadcast what they want and the government will not deal with anyone else from now on, but the owners.

This is somewhat welcomed move, according to young journalist, who often times are given their marching orders by the owners in who and how to cover news atems.

The fact that the Minister sees the media law as away to deal with Press issues is also a step in the right direction.

It’s not known how the minister will approach with his new declaration, the current cases of arrested journalist.
