The United States resumes military support to Somalia this week

Mogadishu (SD) – The United States said this week, that it had restarted its military support for the Somali government forces.

The US embassy said the move was a result of increased US confidence in the government’s financial management system.

“We call on the Government of Somalia to prioritize reforming and improving security institutions, so that Somali troops can take control of their country.” said embassy spokesperson Ryan Grizzle.

He said the United States will continue to provide limited, financial support to the fight against terrorism.

The statement stated that reconciliation between the federal government and member states is crucial, the establishment of a strong security state, and prosperity for the Somali people.

The United States has stopped providing food and fuel assistance to the Somali army in 2017, citing concerns over widespread corruption in the management of military aid.
