Mogadishu (SD) – The United States has responded to allegations by the Somali Intelligence Agency against VOA reporter Harun Maruf.

The US Embassy in Somalia said in a statement; The NISA attacks threaten the freedom of the media and the independent media that form the basis of democratic and accountable governance in Somalia.

The embassy described Harun Maruf as one of the most influential Somali journalists, and a respected VOA professional journalist.

NISA recently accused Harun Maruf in having links to entities that pose threats to the country’s national security.
