Hargeisa (SD) – Wadani party chairman Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro, accompanied by party spokesman Barkhad Jama Batun, met with Somaliland media in Hargeisa yesterday.

The meeting, which took place at the party headquarters, was attended by officials and journalists from various media outlets.

“The 30 journalists accused by the government of getting salaries from Mogadishu is a threat to independent media, it is outrageous, we are against it and I apologize to the Somaliland media for that, “said Governor Abdirahman Irro.

The chairman told the press that he supports the media’s independence to report impartially and professionally.

Journalists at the meeting informed the chairman about the current state of the media, and asked a number of questions about the party and its role in the media.

The Head of Somaliland Journalist Association(SOLJA), Mr.Mohamoud Abdi Jama aka “Xuuto” who was present when the minister made the accusations, failed to address the threat.

Somaliland Interior Minister Mohamed Kahin accused 30 Somaliland Journalist of being paid by Somalia’s federal Government, the minister failed to provide any proof.
