100 MPs Somalia’s Government for Granting a Foreign Businessman Exclusive Livestock Export Rights

MOGADUSHU (SD) – 100 members from both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have strongly condemned a decision by the Somali government to grant a foreign businessman exclusive rights to export Somali livestock.

In a press statement, the lawmakers expressed their outrage, stating that it is unacceptable for a foreign businessman with a controversial history in the country to control the livestock export sector. They accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of granting exclusive livestock export rights to a foreign businessman named Abu-Yasir, who resides in Djibouti and has allegedly defrauded many Somali traders in the past.

The lawmakers further noted that this is the first time in Somalia’s history that livestock exports have been monopolized by a single foreign individual, effectively sanctioning Somali traders who have traditionally operated in the sector.
