A massive fire engulfs Somalia’s biggest Market

MOGADISHU (SD) – This morning, a fire broke out in a section of Bakara Market in Mogadishu. The fire started in the area where gold shops are located, known as dahablas.

Although today is Friday, the market was bustling with activity due to the approach of the Eid al-Fitr holiday at the end of Ramadan.

The fire quickly spread to other parts of the market. Images shared on social media show thick smoke and flames engulfing the area.

Firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze. People hurriedly removed their belongings before the fire spread further.

The cause of these repeated fires at Bakara Market is unclear, and no investigations have ever been conducted, resulting in significant losses for many traders.
