Tokyo (SD) – Ramla Ali a female boxer representing Somalia at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games lost in a unanimous decision against a Romanian boxer Claudia Nechita.
Ramla Ali did well in the first half of the match, but lost points in the second half, according to Fatima Ali, a deputy Chairperson of the Somali National Olympic committee.
“I say we worked hard and we came to Tokyo. We have trained, we have put in a lot of effort and there is nothing left. I say to the Somali people, we will continue to play the sport, ”said Fadumo Nur Ali.
It is the first time a Somali woman has participated in a boxing tournament, representing the Somali nation.
Ramla, who previously represented the UK, in 2017 Ramla won the boxing title, becoming the first Muslim woman to win a boxing title in UK, but has has since represented Somalia.
Somali citizens, especially girls, were wishing Ramla wins the Olympic gold medal.
On August 3rd, the other Somali Olympian, Ali Idow Hassan will compete in the 1,500m (1,500m) race for Somalia.
