African Union tells AMISOM to remain neutral following Mogadishu violence

Mogadishu (SD) – AN statement from the African Union relating to the recent violence in Mogadishu said it was closely monitoring the fighting in capital between two forces of the Somali National Army.

The statement called on AMISOM forces to remain neutral in the Somalia’s current situation and to minimize movement.

Finally, AMISOM was instructed to work with the mandated powers, to protect the property and lives of AMISOM members and areas under its control, such as Villa Somalia, and to use reasonable force if necessary.

The situation in Mogadishu is now calm, after clashes between government and opposition forces clashed last night and yesterday, turning the city into a militarised zone.
