Mogadishu (SD) – Somalia’s Union of Presidential Candidates in a statement said they will continue to hold demonstrations, show the people their commitment and that the country should not be ruled by a dictatorship.
The Union of Candidates also said it condemned the government’s “unlawful” crackdown on members of the opposition.
“The Union of Candidates believed and now it is clear that former President Farmajo does not want peace and stability in the country, his unwillingness to run in the election has shown his political amusement and false motives that he can stay in power and remain in power illegally,” the statement said.
They said some of Somalia’s presidential candidates had been illegally attacked and that their planned peaceful demonstration had been blocked.
Finally, they said that they see the outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo as a criminal and should in no way be part of the solution to the country’s political crisis, and should be barred from running in accordance with the country’s Provisional Constitution.
