BOSSASO (SD) – Puntland security forces have reportedly arrested members of Al-Shabaab in Bossaso who were planning to carry out bombings in the city.
Police in collaboration with the Puntland Intelligence Service have arrested the suspects who arrived from Galgala Mountains the night before, according to military officials who spoke with local media outlets.
Officials said all the arrested individuals had confessed to being members of al-Shabaab and were being investigated.
Meanwhile, the Puntland Armed Forces Court in Mudug and Cayn regions will begin hearing the case of six suspects in the coming days on suspicion of belonging to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
The suspects, mostly minors, were arraigned in Puntland Military Court today, but their parents demanded that the hearing be postponed, so that they could hire lawyers.
The Court Martial granted the parents’ request and adjourned the case file for two days, according to the Chairman of the Puntland Armed Forces Court in Mudug and Ayn regions, General Abdirahman Warsame Jama.
Gen. Abdirahman Warsame Jama said the trial of the six suspects would officially begin on January 27, adding that other suspects linked to al-Shabaab would also be arraigned in court.
