Dhusamareb (SD) – Al Shabaab fighters launched yet another mortar attack on Dhusamareb town last night, according to eyewitnesses.
The Galmudug regional state is currently hosting the Somali President, Prime Minister and heads of regional administration, who are discussing election issues.
Eyewitnesses in Dhusamareb confirmed a number of mortar shells were fired by Al Shabaab into Dhusamareb, with mortars felling in parts of the city.
After the mortar attack, Al Shabaab attacked a military base on the outskirts of Dhusamareb, the forces arrested Al Shabaab members in the operation.
Galmudug security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi confirmed that eight Al-Shabaab members were killed in the operation and their vehicles were seized.
The casualties of the mortar attack and the clashes that followed are not known and there is no word from Galmudug security officials.
This is the second night that Al Shabaab has launched a mortar attack on Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, since the country’s leadership gathered there to participate in the 4th election conference.
