International partners tell Somali leaders no parallel process or partial elections

Mogadishu (SD) – Somalia’s international partners, in a released statement welcomed the Dhusamareb conference attended by Somali leaders in the regional state of Galmudug.

“International partners welcome the meeting among President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo and Federal Member State leaders now underway in Dhusamareb. It is crucial that all participants engage constructively to agree on the implementation of a national electoral process that respects the 17 September model.” Statement said.

The international partners reiterated the importance of reaching a full agreement on all of the issues related to the country’s elections.

“We underscore that any alternative outcomes, including a parallel process or partial elections, or other measures short of an agreed electoral process, would be a setback that would not obtain the support of partners. We, therefore, call upon all political leaders to prioritise finding a way forward without further delay.” the statement said.

Finally, the international partners called on Somali leaders meeting in Dhusamareb to work together in achieving consensus.

“International partners again call on all of Somalia’s leaders to find consensus on electoral implementation as an urgent matter of national interest.”
