Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility the blast that killed the Governor of Marko district

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at the Marka district in Lower Shabelle region, which killed 11 people.

Marka District Governor Abdullahi Ali Ahmed (Waafow) was one of the individuals killed yesterday in a suicide attack in front of the District Headquarters.

An statement from Al Shabaab said the blast that targeted Wafow was carried out by a suicide bomber wearing explosives on his waist.

“The Mujahideen have targeted Abdullahi Waafow with a suicide attack, who was appointed as the Governor of Marka district,” said the news from Al Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab accused Wafow of being one of the corrupt traitors who led AMISOM foreign forces to the districts of the Lower Shabelle.

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has sent his deepest condolences to the families, relatives of those who died, and added that may God have mercy on the late Marka District Governor Abdullahi Ali Ahmed who was killed in the attack.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reiterated his government’s commitment to take the fight to Al-Shabaab.
