MOGADISHU (SD) – A landmine blast reportedly targeted a convoy of ATMIS troops as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia on their way to Marka town in Lower Shabelle region.
The explosion that hit the ATMIS convoy was said to be a landmine, causing casualties of ATMIS troops.
Al-Shabaab in released statement, claimed responsibility for the attack, said it killed five soldiers in the explosion and wounded several others.
The landmine blast occurred in the early hours at No. 60 on the outskirts of Marka town in Lower Shabelle region.
There was no acknowledgement of the attack from ATMIS and there is no way of knowing the exact number of casualties caused by the blast.
Al-Shabaab has recently stepped up its bombings and direct attacks on the African Union Troops in Somalia (ATMIS) and the Federal Government of Somalia bases and while traveling on the roads.
