MOGADISHU (SD) – A suicide bomber blew himself up at a new hotel on Mogadishu’s Lido beach called Pescatore Sea Food last night, killing and wounding several people.
At the time of the blast, members of both houses of the Federal Parliament, particularly those from the Sool region, were present at the hotel, as well as officials, including the police chief General Hijar.
A police spokesman Abdifatah Aden told local media that a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at Lido beach, adding that there were no the usual armed clashes after the blast.
A police spokesman said the blast killed three people, including soldiers, and injured eight others, including civilians, near the scene of the blast.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for last night’s attack on the Pescatore Hotel on Lido Beach.
Al-Shabaab said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber targeting government officials.
The attack comes as preparations are underway in Mogadishu for the election of the speaker of Somalia’s 11th parliament.
