Al Shabaab claims they killed more than 70 Government soldiers

Mogadishu May 30, 2023 (SD) – Members of Al-Shabaab, a militant group, have today launched an attack on Masagaway village located in the Galgaduud region. The attack targeted both the military forces and the local population.

Al-Shabaab claims to have attacked Masagaway, particularly targeting government troops who recently returned from Eritrea.

According to Al-Shabaab, the attack on the outskirts of Masagaway resulted in the killing of 73 soldiers, and they also claim to have seized military equipment from the government forces.

The Al-Shabaab claim cannot be independently verified, and the Somali government has declared that it will investigate the Al-Shabaab attack on Masagaway.

The Somali government also stated that 30 soldiers and residents were killed in the village. Additionally, the government confirmed that three vehicles were captured by Al-Shabaab in the incident.
