Al Shabaab claims to have ‘targeted’ US officials in Mogadishu bombing

Mohamed (SD) – Al-Shabaab reportedly claimed responsibility for today’s bombing, set off by an improvised explosive device (IED) vehicle driven by a suicide bomber.

According to Al-Shabaab linked media outlets, an official statement from al-Shabaab said the attack targeted American officials working for a defense company called Pacific Architects and Engineers.

“An explosion targeted a convoy of vehicles carrying white American officers. The vehicle in which the American officers were traveling was targeted and there were casualties,” the Al-Shabaab statement said.

Al-Shabaab claimed that two US officers, along with the Ugandans were traveling from Villa Baidoa.

Witnesses confirmed to Mogadishu media that three people had been killed and many more injured.

The attack came as a grenade was hurled at a tax collector in Wadajir district, injuring three soldiers.

The two blasts in Mogadishu today, came amid final preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
