Mandera (SD) – Al-Shabaab has reportedly destroyed a telecommunications station owned by Safaricom in Mandera on the Somali-Kenyan border.
Mandera Deputy Administrator Nyamboka Mounda told reporters that the attackers did not harm staff and guards at the center.
“A telecommunications center was completely destroyed after it was attacked by gunmen. Fortunately no one was injured,” said a Mandera administration official.
Reports from Mandera indicate that guards the at the station fled after learning of an imminent attack on the compound.
The Attack comes same day Somalia confirmed Kenyan troops pouring to the Kenya Somalia border regions.
This is not the first attack of its kind, Al-Shabaab has previously carried out attacks on telecommunications stations in Kenya.
