Mogadishu (SD) – Armed clashes between Federal Government forces along clan lines stopped after Benadir regional commissioner and Mogadishu mayor Omar Mohamed Mohamud Filish and military officials intervened.
The warring parties in Karaan district and Abdiaziz district in Mogadishu were separated by a government deployed military and security forces.
As many as 10 people were killed and many more were injured in the fighting, according to local news media.
The fighting was sparked by a land dispute between military officers over disputed land near Mirinyaada and Kawaan Bari.
The clan-based fighting is led by two Somali government officers, Osman Hadole and Joore.
The hours-long battle shows the government’s inability to control the armed clans in Mogadishu, amid a period of political turmoil in the country.
