Mogadishu (SD) – Al-Shabaab militants executed at least 16 people in Lower Shabelle, Middle Jubba and Bay regions, accusing them of spying for the Somali government, the United States and AMISOM.
The people were executed in Jilib district of Middle Juba region, Sakow district of Middle Juba region and Bula-Fulay area of Bay region.
Ten of the 16 were shot in the afternoon, five were shot in a public square in Bula-Fulay, Bay region, while five others were shot in Jilib, Middle Jubba region. All the people executed were men.
Six people were shot dead by Al-Shabaab militants in Sakow district in Lower Shabelle region yesterday, bringing the total number of people executed by Al-Shabaab in the past 24 hours to 16.
Among those shot dead in Sakow yesterday was a girl named Fartun Omar Abkow, accusing them of spying for the Somali government, the United States and AMISOM.
The killings of 16 people by Al-Shabaab fighters have been described by some as revenge of Puntland executions of 21 Al Shabaab militants.
However, it is noteworthy that Al-Shabaab regularly carries out killings of people accused of spying, adultery, theft and other things.
