Al-Shabaab increases attacks in Kenya

GARISSA (SD) – Heavily armed suspected al-Shabaab fighters have carried two attacks in the last 24 hours in Kenya’s northeastern region near the border with Somalia.

In tbe first attack, using RPGs, the militants destroyed a Safricom mast in Mandera County in Omar-Jilio village along Arabia-Mandera road.

The locals  also reported that the militants a house belonging to Safaricom, a giant network provider in Kenya.

Early Tuesday, al-Shabaab fighters reprotedly stormed a vehicle belonging to Kenya police, killing four soldiers and injuring three others.

According to multiple sources, the officers were travelling in a probox car when they ran into an ambush between Liboi and Kulan area.

The officers were robbed of three AK47 rifles and an unknown number of bullets. The incident is the latest to happen in the area.

Kenya has been fighting al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2011 when Kenyan miliyary entered Somalia following alleged foreign abductions carried out by al-Shabaab members.
